ASET News TAC Update
As 2017 winds down, we take the opportunity to look back at a year
of learning and accomplishment.
On the achievement front, TAC will have accredited 22 programs, 11
of which are in Ontario, by year's end. This will bring the total number
of national accredited programs to 31.
Much was learned from conducting numerous audits and receiving
feedback from customers and audit team members. Three key
findings stand out. First, our accreditation process for educational
institutions, particularly the self-assessment package, is overly time
consuming. Second, parts of our accreditation process need to be
revised and clarified. Third, our training does not adequately prepare
auditors.
To address these challenges, we have begun discussions with
a forms automation service provider to digitize all accreditation
process forms which will eliminate data entry duplication, link the
self-assessment information to the audit documents and house all
documents on a TAC managed portal. We are extremely encouraged
this project will take our process to a completely different level next
year. We have also been working closely with our lead auditor team
to resolve a number of accreditation process issues. And last but
certainly not least, we are well into a major overhaul of our auditor
training. The new training, which will include a mock audit to instruct
how to conduct the audit, will be available mid-December. We're
confident these changes will move TAC into 2018 with a more refined
accreditation process, one which will provide better value to our
customers and a much better experience for our auditors.
A number of exciting developments took place during the second
half of the year related to national standards. First, the Standards
Development Steering Committee commenced its review of key
issues, including the scope and format of the standards. AS well,
agreement was reached with the Canadian Council of Technicians
and Technologists to establish a single set of standards. As a result,
industry and academic professionals from all provinces will provide
input into TAC's CTAC Review Project.
Building on the strong momentum gained this year, 2018 plans to
be just as busy a year with over 30 audits are scheduled, along with
the completion of forms automation project and the publication of 8
revised standards.
