Message from
the President
Ray Wilkinson, C.E.T.
A hearty hello to all of our members, as we prepare to enter
the holiday season! Despite a rocky year, we at ASET have
remained steadfast in our role as a premier technology professional regulator in Canada.
In recent weeks, I've been active both within and outside the
association. On the outside, I've found myself busy as a participant in virtual meetings with the Technology Professionals Canada (TPC) Working Group.
On the inside track, I've continued working closely with our
CEO, Barry Cavanaugh, Registrar Melanie Leaf and Manager of Communications Allan Tesorio to strengthen our association and work towards our goals.
It's important to understand where we've come from to help
us get to where we're going. To that end, I've also recently
taken the time to learn about those technician and technologist members who've been with us for over 50 years. We
value that type of commitment at ASET, so we want to make
sure we're honouring to the fullest these members for their
dedication.
Finally, I've watched in admiration the progress of science
and technology globally, in the pursuit of a vaccine to the virus that's defined so much of this year for many of us.
Technological breakthroughs have opened countless doors
both here in Alberta and across the world. I'm proud to be
the president of an organization that continues to beat the
drum on that march of progress and innovation.

On topics of importance to our general membership, the
Council and I have been listening to your input on a number
of issues. Chief among these are the continuing discussions
around self-regulation, scope of practice rights and interprovincial mobility legislation for technicians and technologists finding their work taking them out of Alberta. We've
followed this legislation closely, giving valuable input to the
provincial government as it moves toward implementation.
