We'd like to renew the discussion with our partners in the Act, APEGA, in the hope of finding a way to properly recognize and enfranchise engineering technologists. This will further establish a meaningful order to the structure of all engineering work. It will also help the public to identify who does what, and be assured that those serving their engineering or technology needs are the most appropriate and qualified to meet those needs. This should not be an unreasonable expectation. We believe that the public expects us to rationalize where everyone fits, and how everyone is qualified. Clarity and accountability matter. The confusion that exists around our respective roles can be cleared up, and we can make the situation less tangled in red tape and unanswered questions. We'll go on to put all the pieces together and to finish the puzzle. Like any other complex puzzle, it's good to have one's friends along to help make sense of it. Let's see if the Government of Alberta, or our colleagues at APEGA, can help us with these final few pieces. TECHNOLOGY ALBERTA | WINTER 2020 | 9
