YLW NEWS 2009-2011 Airport Advisory Committee The Airport Advisory Committee includes representation from communities, in addition to Kelowna, that are also served by the Kelowna International Airport. Elected officials from member communities are appointed to the committee as representatives by their respective Local Governments. “Although this airport is a City department,” says Airport Advisory Chair Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd, “it is the only international airport for BC’s southern interior and is vital to the region’s economic prosperity. This is an important Committee to gain regional collaboration and support for the future of Kelowna International Airport”. Kelowna City Council approved the following appointments for the 2009-2011 term: Robert Fine, representing the Economic Development Commission; Meryle Corbette, representing the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce; Colin Day, City at Large; Michael J. Ballingall representing Tourism Kelowna; Len Novakowski for Westbank and District Chamber of Commerce, and Brian Wills as the Vernon Chamber of Commerce representative. The recent appointments bring the Advisory committee to 16 members including elected officials from the City of Kelowna (2), Central Okanagan Regional District, City of Vernon, District of Peachland, District of Lake Country, City of Salmon Arm, District of West Kelowna, and the Westbank First Nation. n 28 YLW CONNECTION FREE Airport Parking? Yes you read it right – as of April 15th the first 15 minutes parking at the airport in the short- and long-term lots will be free. Addressing the need for short term drop-off and pick-up, while discouraging curbside idling and the ring road drive-around traffic, new parking fees have been announced to encourage parkers to turn off engines. The frequent traveler can also save costs through the “Gold Pass” program. The six-month Gold Pass can be purchased for $714, which equates to $119 per month, and is set at 1/3 of the monthly maximum equivalent for the short-term lot. The prepaid Gold Pass is non-transferable and will be vehicle and driver specific. Stop by the Royal Star booth in the short-term lot for details. Parking fees: Short Term Lot - $1 for the first hour (includes first 15 minutes); $2 for each additional hour to a maximum of $12 per 24 hours. Long Term Lot - $1 for the first hour (includes first 15 minutes) to a maximum of $8 per 24 hours and a weekly maximum rate of $42. Curbside parking meters continue to be one dollar per 30 minutes. n Spotless Award for YLW White Spot!
