POLICY ON TARGET BEHIND THE SCENES OF OF A THREE ACRE EXTENSIVE GREEN ROOF IN MINNEAPOLIS MN By Michael Krause he City of Minneapolis is set to construct one of the largest green roof installations in North America on the Target Center, a sports arena in Minneapolis that is home to the nba Timberwolves and other sports and music events. At the bid opening this Fall, there will likely be proposals for up to 144,000-square-feet of extensive green roof space in the heart of the downtown business district. Bids are currently being considered by the City with construction anticipated to begin in April 2009. T Target Center will be another high-profile green roof project in downtown Minneapolis joining the Central Public Library, Brit’s Pub lawn-bowling roof and a new green roof on City Hall. The City Hall green roof features a large cistern that collects water from the roofs above and utilizes it for irrigation purposes for the courtyard green roof. The courtyard green roof is visible from the three floors above and features over 20 species of native plants. Target Center is also just a baseball’s throw away from a new Major League Baseball stadium for the Minnesota Twins that has made a commit- 30 LIVING ARCHITECTURE MONITOR FALL
