That’s Atlanta 2009! We take pride in presenting to you our 7th Annual Greening Rooftops for Sustainable Communities Conference,Awards and Trade Show on June 3 - 5 in Atlanta, Georgia, showcasing the most innovative, pioneering and inventive green roofs in the world. While in Atlanta, you will experience a conference beyond the norm. For industry specifiers and other practitioners, we have added new sessions and events designed to enhance your conference experience along with countless networking opportunities to help you push the boundaries of your current knowledge. For example, on Tues. June 2, we launch our first annual Green Roofs Golf Tournament. Bring a friend, or create a foursome and play on one of Atlanta’s oldest golf courses – the Bobby Jones Golf Club. Open to everyone, this is a great event for any level of golfer, beginner to pro. This year’s Green Roof Tours are scheduled for Tues. June 2 and Sat. June 6 and are amongst our best-to-date. On Wed. June 3, education courses and committee meetings will be held as exhibitors set up for the Trade Show – and this year, the dynamics are different! Anticipation will be high as many people finish off taking the four, core green-roof training courses and prepare for the launch of our Green Roof Professional (GRP) accreditation exam on Fri. June 5. Committee meetings have been restructured to allow for more dialogue amongst committee members. On Thurs. June 4, the conference kicks-off with remarks from the mayor of Atlanta, Shirley Franklin, the outgoing chair of GRHC, Peter Lowitt, and Michael Krause, chair of the new Green Infrastructure Foundation. New this year are our On the Roof With … sessions designed to create an informal forum where experts can address emerging industry issues and opportunities and have an open dialogue with delegates. Presenters include Charlie Miller, Roofscapes, Inc., Ed Snodgrass, Emory Knoll Farms, Dr. Nigel Dunnett, University of Sheffield, Keith Agoada, Sky Vegetables and Alfredo Fernandez-Gonzales, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. And, don’t miss out on the largest green roof industry Trade Show in North America featuring 80+ exhibitors. Talk to the experts about their products, benefits and solutions for common green roof challenges. This is also your chance to see some of the most dynamic, original green roof and green wall projects in North America as our annual Awards of Excellence are presented at a luncheon on Fri. June 5. Award winners will be featured in the summer edition of the Living Architecture Monitor. As always, we cannot present a conference without the involvement of many companies and individuals. We would like to recognize our sponsors, The Home Depot Foundation, Tremco, American Hydrotech and Green Roof Blocks, in particular, for their ongoing support and generous contributions. Additionally, we have received tremendous support from the local community and I would particularly like to thank our Local Host Committee, chaired by Bourke Reeve of Southface, for their enthusiasm, networks and encouragement in bringing our 7th Annual gathering to the south. I look forward to seeing you all soon in Atlanta! D To learn more about the conference and to register, please visit www.greenroofs.org. Sponsorship and trade show opportunities still available.
