CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS 2011 CITIESALIVE PHILADELPHIA CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS In 2011 CitiesAlive was the site of the 9th Green Roof and Wall Awards of Excellence, held at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown on December 2nd. The hotel’s Liberty Ballroom was packed with attendees eager to view the award-winning projects and individuals. Once again the leaders of green roof and wall design, policy, and research were celebrated – and attendees were presented with numerous examples of creative innovation. These included projects that provide direct health and social benefits, such as the therapeutic considerations in the landscaping of the Vancouver’s Millennium Village project, and the addition of green space to a cement-filled neighbourhood in Los Angeles’ Central Avenue Constituents Services Center. The ceremony was presented by Jeffrey Bruce, Chairman of the GRHC Board, and Marguerite Wells, Owner of Motherplants Ltd. Also serving as esteemed judges were David Yocca (Conservation Design Forum), Terry Guen (Terry Guen Design Associates), Christopher Lyon (Tournesol Siteworks), and Monica Kuhn (Monica E. Kuhn, Architect Inc.) We received many excellent submissions that did not win. We encourage re-submissions.
