OSPE WAS PROUD TO HOST
THE INAUGURAL ENGINEERING STUDENT
OUTREACH CHALLENGE
National Engineering Month (NEM) is Canada's biggest celebration of engineering, with over 600 interactive events and activities taking place across the country during the month of March. NEM celebrates the engineering profession's achievements
and inspires young Canadians to become the next generation of problem solvers - OSPE is proud to collaborate as one of the
founding partners.
This year marked the first ever Engineering Student Outreach Challenge (ESOC). ESOC invited student teams from universities
across Ontario to host an event or series of events during NEM, while competing for a chance to win one of three cash prizes.
The 2018 ESOC featured five student teams from four different universities. An impressive total of 16 events were run by these
student led teams throughout NEM.
The events were scored on messaging effectiveness, integration of the NEM theme and participant engagement. The rankings
below were determined by the National Engineering Month Ontario Steering Committee, who weighed the event scorecards,
event information packets, and pre/post-event engagement.
OSPE presented the students with their awards at OSPE's Annual General Meeting this past May.
2018 winning teams were:
1st place - Lakehead University
2nd place - University of Windsor

Lead by Howard Tong and his team: Taryn Fournie, Alexandra Duchesne, Malini Ghosh, Daoping Guo and Patrick Breach
Congratulations to all the teams who participated and a big thank you for all your efforts!
