OSPE welcomed The Honourable Kevin Flynn
(Oakville), as the guest speaker for the evening. Flynn
is a seasoned parliamentarian, having most recently
served as the Minister of Labour and a member of the
Treasury Board. In previous roles Flynn has served
Ontarians as Parliamentary Assistant to the Ministers of Infrastructure; Transportation; Training,
Colleges and Universities; Education; Environment;
Energy; Democratic Renewal; and Labour. He was
also Chair of the Standing Committee on Mental
Health and Addictions.
Prior to his election in 2003, Flynn owned a successful Oakville-based business, while serving as an
Oakville town and Halton Regional councillor for
over 18 years, winning six consecutive elections. He
believes in the importance of community and serves
as a president of the Halton Children's Aid Society,
a mentor in the Big Brothers program and coaches
minor sports.
At the end of his presentation, Flynn publicly
signed OSPE's #EngineeringAlly pledge, which
acknowledges Professional Engineers as trusted, ethical leaders who create solutions for society's most
complex problems.

The Personal Scholarship for Engineering Students
in Ontario is awarded to OSPE's student members
who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate
degree in engineering.
The Personal awards four outstanding students with $2,500 each, to be used towards their
engineering education at any accredited Ontario
university.

Daniel J. Young, P.Eng. (CSPE Trustee) and Andrew Cook (President, ESSCO)
Through an annual trust fund award, the Canadian Society of Professional Engineers (CSPE) provides grants to engineering students to
help build OSPE's membership across the province. On behalf of CSPE
trustees, Karen Chan, P.Eng., and Stephen Jack, P.Eng., trustee Daniel J.
Young, P.Eng. announced that the Engineering Student Societies' Council
of Ontario (ESSCO) will receive a $1,500 cheque to offset travel expenses
for students who attend OSPE and profession-related meetings.
