projects can often have catastrophic
outcomes.
Engineers have an ethical responsibility
to act in the interest of the public and
the environment. As such, there is an
expectation that engineers take a leadership
role in becoming stewards of technology.
To do so successfully, it is imperative that
indigenous perspectives be incorporated into
engineering processes and practices.
Further, as part of OSPE's Equity, Diversity,
and Inclusion initiatives laid out in the
new Strategic Plan, Engineering the Future

Together, OSPE has made it a priority
to build bridges with Indigenous
communities across Ontario and
Canada more broadly. This workshop
demonstrated that relationshipbuilding with Indigenous communities
takes time, respect, and understanding,
and that the engineering community
and all people must listen and learn
more than we speak and express.
OSPE seeks to understand
how engineers can help support
Indigenous communities and attract
more Indigenous youth into the
engineering profession. According
to Engineers Canada, only one per
cent of professional engineers across
the country identify as Indigenous.
OSPE believes that The engineering
profession must adapt to accept
different knowledge systems, like
traditional knowledge, in order
to encourage more Indigenous
representation.

Indigenous Environmental Institute (IEI) at
Trent University develops professional training
and community education programs that bring
together Indigenous and Western sciences
as mutually respected knowledge systems.
The IEI supports Indigenous communities,
environmental organizations, and companies
who request guidance on how to work with
multiple knowledges. It operates as an
Indigenous and non-Indigenous collaborative
born from the Indigenous Environmental
Sciences and Studies Program.

Turtle Island Institute (TII) is an Indigenous
social innovation collaborative, a think and do
thank, established to develop and promote a
uniquely Indigenous approach to the practice
of social innovation. TII is being incubated by
the Waterloo Institute for Social Innovation and
Resilience (WISIR) to support Indigenous social
innovation communities of practice. Melanie
Goodchild, a Research Fellow and PhD
candidate at WISIR, is the Founder of TII.
Engineering Change Lab (ECL) is a
collaborative platform for individuals and
organizations from across the engineering
community to share perspectives, deepen
understanding, and take action to address
systemic challenges holding back the full
potential of engineering to contribute to society

* Subject to credit approval by National Bank. The offer constitutes a benefit granted to holders of a National Bank Platinum, World Mastercard® or World Elite® Mastercard® credit card. As an example, an offer
holder can potentially save up to $1,911 per year. This figure is based on the typical profile of an offer holder who has the following: a banking package equivalent to The TotalTM package, a World Elite Mastercard
credit card, a National Bank All-In-One BankingTM mortgage line of credit with a current annual balance of $150,000 and a personal line of credit with a current annual balance of $25,000, all with a good credit
rating from credit bureaus. The savings were calculated as follows: no monthly transaction fees included in The Total package (annual savings of $311), plus an annual 0.75% discount on the All-In-One Banking
line of credit rate (annual savings of $1,125), plus an annual 2.50% discount on the personal line of credit rate (annual savings of $625), minus the annual fee for the World Elite Mastercard credit card for one
year. These discounts represent the difference between what a client who is not an offer holder might have and what an offer holder might have. Some eligibility requirements apply; for more details, go to
