OSPE'S ADVOCACY COMMITTEES & TASK FORCES
OSPE's mission is to advocate on issues of importance to society and the engineering profession and create opportunities for
the entire engineering community to connect, collaborate and contribute as they progress through their careers. We ensure
government, media and the public appreciate how critical the engineering profession is to growing Ontario's economy while
protecting the environment and improving the quality of life we enjoy in our province.

In order to ensure that we effectively capture the voice of our members in all of our advocacy efforts, OSPE has six advocacy
committees and task forces made up of professional engineers, engineering interns (EITs), graduates and students.
What do OSPE's Committees and Task Forces do?
1. Conduct research on topics of interest or expertise amongst the engineering community
2. Create policy recommendations, and participate in OSPE's annual Lobby Day & MPP Reception each spring
3. Engage all OSPE members and stakeholders in advocacy activities and provide opportunities for input and feedback
4. Nominate members of the engineering community for awards
The expertise and diverse experiences of committee members enables OSPE to develop evidence-based policy recommendations.
In 2020, OSPE will be launching a new website that incorporates a platform for members to share their perspectives on Task
Force policy work, among other OSPE initiatives, in a closed forum. Stay tuned to hear about how you can utilize this platform to
become more involved in advocacy by sharing your expertise and input directly with our Task Forces online.

Ensuring engineering principles govern energy production, distribution and consumption
Engineers understand that the province's economic well-being is linked to the reliability and cost-effectiveness of our energy
systems.

2019 ACTIVITIES
APRIL

OSPE hosts 10th annual Lobby Day and MPP Reception
OSPE welcomed more than 35 Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) from all political parties to the release of the Energy
Task Force's latest report Retail Electricity Price Reform: Path to Lower Energy Bills and Economy-Wide CO2 Emission Reductions,
including the Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines.
OSPE also met with NDP Energy and Environment Critic, Peter Tabuns, to discuss the report's findings.

MAY

OSPE provides input into the province's consultation on industrial electricity prices, highlighting the opportunity to reduce total
energy costs for ratepayers if surplus electricity is used to displace other energy sources.
