OUR FUTURE
SPE and its members take the role of
shaping our future seriously. We believe
that engineers have a responsibility to
their own profession and possess the expertise to
shape it for the better. This means finding ample
time to investigate alternatives, research solutions,
and bring the different areas of engineering -
industry, academia, and government - together,
to create an engineering community that looks
after its members, pushes innovation, and holds
its head up high. OSPE is proud to present a first
of its kind: Ontario's first annual Engineering
Conference.
This full-day event will bring OSPE's
engineering community together with industry,
academia, and government to present and
discuss the latest opportunities, challenges, and
innovations in engineering. We will address what
must be done in Ontario to collaborate and share
knowledge to ensure our province's engineers,
businesses, and post-secondary institutions
remain competitive. This event has an eye towards
the future: how can we secure the profession so
that wages rise, solutions remain cutting edge,
and society celebrates the value of engineers? By
bringing together engineering experts to share
ideas, OSPE hopes to create the strong foundation
needed to address these concerns.
The full day event, scheduled for fall 2021,
will also provide OSPE members with unique
access to an array of professional development
opportunities. The event will allow engineers to
develop their networks, enhance their personal
brands, and improve the communication skills
that are vital for any industry. By focusing on
these core soft skills, OSPE hopes to assist an
engineering class that wants to play an active
leadership role in our society. At OSPE, we have
always believed that the critical thinking and
analytical skills of engineers goes far beyond
technical applications; engineers are capable
of using these skills to integrate themselves in
leadership positions in academia, government,
and industry, thus leading society to a future that
values evidence-based thinking and sound policy
solutions.
