ADVOCACY IN ACTION
OSPE is recognized for its significant delivery of risk
management and scale, both of which are important
factors in determining program risk profiles, benefiting
members.
Leveraging scale and implementing quality control are
incredibly important. Something that underwriters
don't comprehend is that Continuing Professional
Development is not currently mandated in Ontario, and
this contributes to a higher risk profile, as does the fact
that there is no minimum required liability insurance
for practicing engineers, something else that surprises
many underwriters.-Therefore, demonstrating an
ongoing commitment to risk mitigation by taking ongoing
professional development in your field of practice, is highly
regarded by insurers. In instances of a potential claim,
showing micro credentials or specialization certificates
are beneficial. Thus, engineers are strongly encouraged to
focus on projects within their specialization, and resource
adequately when extending beyond these.
