The class underway in SHE-652 seems like any other at Ryerson until you hear the students’ discussion: “This is where the live DJ will go,” “The staging will create an intimate experience” and “Should we make a kit for the hair and makeup artists?”

Welcome to Fashion Promotion, a required course for third-year Fashion Communication and Creative Industries students. In the two-semester course, which covers all aspects of event planning in the fashion industry, students act as a marketing agency. They focus entirely on organizing Mass Exodus, an annual yearend fashion show, on behalf of their client, the School of Fashion. Production Performance students also work on Mass Exodus for one of their courses. Students from across Ryerson take part, volunteering on production and promotion, including some from the RTA School of Media and the School of Interior Design, and hair stylists and makeup artists from the student club RU Beauty.
