Research Initiatives
with Sunnybrook

Partnerships

Students gain a
competitive edge
by working in a
world-renowned
hospital setting

Dr. Ana Pejović-Milić, professor and chair,
says, "Dr. James Gräfe and Dr. Eric Da Silva
are our faculty members who also hold clinical
medical physicist positions at Sunnybrook's
Odette Cancer Centre. For our program
students, this connection with the clinical
practice and environment is highly beneficial."
This new official co-teaching and cotraining program with Sunnybrook allows
Ryerson students to complete studies at
Ryerson - and at the same time gaining a
competitive edge via the chance to work
in a world-renowned hospital setting on
interdisciplinary research.
While this venture offers potential benefits
to both institutions in terms of educational
and research opportunities, ultimately, the
partnership and resultant research will serve
a wide range of cancer patients.

THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS has worked
hard to develop dynamic interdisciplinary
collaborations with many industry partners
across the health-care spectrum.
In 2015, we formed a landmark joint
partnership with the Sunnybrook Cancer
Centre and Research Institute at Sunnybrook
Health Sciences Centre with mutual goals of
advancing clinical radiation therapy technology
and providing high-quality educational
experiences to students.
The Sunnybrook partnership also brought new
faculty members to the department, including:
* Dr. James Gräfe, a certified clinical physicist
with a joint clinical role at the Odette Cancer
Centre, as an assistant professor
* Dr. Eric Da Silva as an assistant professor
* Seven clinical medical physicists from the
Odette Cancer Centre as adjunct professors
