Research
Facility at
MaRS
Expanding
science horizons

LOCATED IN THE MARS DISCOVERY DISTRICT - one
of Canada's most exciting innovation centres
- the brand-new Ryerson University Research
Facility features 20,000 square feet of hightech, collaborative laboratory space. The lab is
designed to support Ryerson faculty and their
research teams working in many disciplines:
from pathogen microbiology, protein
biochemistry, to cell biology and more.
The new space provides state-of-the-art
biomedical research facilities as well as a
comfortable social space to foster discussion
and interactions between students, faculty
and staff. This modern space provides our
researchers with the tools and facilities to drive
the success of their research endeavours.
Why build a brand-new space? Wakarchuk
says, "To attract top faculty and students,
we needed to update our research facilities.
After all, competition for great talent is fierce."
And while adding much-needed updated
laboratory space, Wakarchuk says the project
is more than just a dramatic improvement
for students and faculty. "It's a sign of our
growing maturity in this field, and of Ryerson's
commitment to science - a signal that we are
here to stay and grow."
The facility's location was chosen with an
eye towards fostering strong collaborations
in the Toronto MaRS Discovery District. "It
allows our researchers to operate amidst other
research-intensive organizations including
Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, Clinical
Trials Ontario and University of Toronto. I'm
excited by the potential for growing our work
and expanding our connections within this
environment," says Wakarchuk.
