AU LARGE: A TIMELESS MOTTO
More than 450 years ago, the French had a fort operating at the bottom of Bathurst Street, and the coureur de bois (runners of the forest) used it as a pushing-off place for their journeys to the interior.
Legend has it that the early morning tranquility would be broken by the lead canoeist shouting a rallying cry of “Au Large,” which means “into the offing” or “most distant part of the sea in view.”
“Au Large” became the motto for Seneca, instilled by our founding president, William T. Newnham, as he and his fellow Ontario college pioneers looked toward the distant sea of our future to help build Ontario for tomorrow. For all.
Seneca established the Au Large Legacy Society to celebrate and recognize individuals who have made provisions in their estate plans to provide a gift to Seneca to support students and programs. These gifts may take the form of bequests by naming Seneca in a will, life insurance, RRSP, RRIF or other charitable planned gifts.
A lifetime membership to the Au Large Legacy Society is extended to individuals who indicate in writing that Seneca is in their estate plans, or who provide a copy of their bequests. As a lifetime member of the Au Large Legacy Society, you belong to a select group of individuals who are committed to the future success of Seneca and its students. This distinguished group will receive special recognition and be invited to Seneca events.
Please consider joining the society today in honour of Seneca’s 50th year. For more information, contact:
