features latest technology

equipment for Seneca students.

"The robots are an integral part of the
EMA program, and we are planning on
introducing them to our students in
January," says Romel Cipriani, Chair
of School of Electronics & Mechanical
Engineering Technology.
Seneca and KUKA will also collaborate
on curriculum design, training and
work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities for students.

"This partnership will provide Seneca
students with the opportunity to program,
set up and troubleshoot industry-grade
equipment," says Cipriani. "It's also
important from a curriculum perspective
as it allows faculty to revise the EMA
program based on what is happening in
the industry."
The first WIL opportunities from the
partnership are expected this year, and
interested Seneca faculty members will
also be able to enrol in training courses
to become KUKA-recognized instructors.

Seneca and KUKA Canada Ltd. was signed
last year to strengthen Seneca's ability to
address the ongoing impact of Industry 4.0.
Synonymous with the fourth industrial
revolution, Industry 4.0 refers to the
growing trend of data-driven automation
in manufacturing technologies. It encompasses artificial intelligence (AI), the
Internet of Things, cloud computing and
other recent technological advances.
The partnership with KUKA, a world
leader in advanced manufacturing and
intelligent automation, has provided stateof-the-art robotic equipment to the new
robotics lab in the Centre for Innovation,
Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE)
at Newnham Campus.
The first five robots are expected to be
installed this fall, and students from the
