A new way to celebrate graduating students

Farewell Party

MORE THAN 100 soon-to-be graduates gathered
inside a bustling Alumni Atrium at King
Campus on Thursday, March 12 for the
Graduating Students' Farewell Party.
It was the first time that Alumni and
Career Development have collaborated on
a graduation party.
" We learned in the fall of 2019 that
Alumni was thinking of hosting a graduation
party, " says Beverley Stevens, Career
Development Co-ordinator. " Since our
area is always thinking about the ways that
we could better support our graduating
students, who are transitioning into the
workforce, we decided to reach out. It was
a wonderful collaboration. "
With presentations by service areas such
as Academic Pathways, Convocation and

International, the party, which featured
refreshments provided by food vendors like
Aramark, was the culmination of a weeklong series of graduate-focused events.
" I know many students who found the
farewell party to be useful, " says Aidan
D'Souza, a graduate of the Police Foundations and 911 & Emergency Services
Communications programs. " There was a
lot of information for graduates who are
going into the workforce as well as resources
for those who would like to know the
academic pathway options that are available
at Seneca. "
A similar celebration at Newnham
Campus scheduled for later in March was
cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was replaced by the Graduating Students'

Virtual Career Launch Week from April 27
to May 1. Nearly 1,200 attendees took part
in the series of virtual events.
All graduates have access to a range of
complementary services from Career
Development for up to two years after
graduation, including interview skills
workshops, resumé critiques and Seneca's
online job board SenecaWorks
(sw.senecacollege.ca).

The popular Graduating Students' Farewell Party was one
of the last on-campus events held before Seneca closed
campuses due to the pandemic.
