Women in Deep Foundations panel discussion

During the two days of the conference, four sessions were
provided: Improving Current Practices with Case Studies;
Development in Safe and Efficient Geo-Construction; Advances in
Deep Foundations, Earth Retention Systems and Ground
Improvement; and Urban Development/Redevelopment. Keynote
lecturers included Howard Perko, Ph.D., P.E., of Magnum Piering
on advances worldwide of helical piles; Deepak Raj of Keller on
innovative geotechnical solutions; Chandrasekhar Khokhar of
AECOM on risk allocation and mitigation in tunneling projects;
Matthew Meyer of Langan on Port of Miami tunnel; Professor V.S.
Raju on the importance of geotechnical investigations; Prasad
Yenumula, Ph.D., M.B.A., of Duke Energy on reliability based
design; and Vito Cheung of Betterground (HK) on stone columns.
Keynote lecturers and session speakers provided valuable
information to the attendees who took advantage of the speakers'
expertise by asking many questions promoting additional discussion
on the topics during the conference lunches and tea breaks. Other

highlights include the Women in Deep Foundations panel
discussion led by Yogini Deshpande, Ph.D., Renuka Consultants,
where the importance of mentorship, challenges for women in the
industry and advocacy were discussed; a panel discussion on
enhancing standards of Indian geofoundation industry to match the
global best; and the awarding of the DFI of India Lifetime
Contribution Award to Professor V.S. Raju of V.S.R. Consultants.
