Calling Exhibitors and Sponsors for #DFI46 in Las Vegas
Exhibitor and sponsor registration is
now open for DFI's 46th Annual Conference on Deep Foundations taking
place October 12-15, 2021, at MGM
Grand in Las Vegas.
The organizing committee, led by
Conference Chair Tim Avery, P.E., and
Program Co-Chairs Martin B. Hudson,
Ph.D., P.E., G.E., and Ramin Motamed,
Ph.D., P.E., is planning an exciting event.

Avery

Hudson

Tim Avery, P.E., is the senior
business development manager at
Keller. He has been active in DFI and
ADSC for over 20 years. Avery has been
drilling, injecting and vibrating things
into the earth for 35 years - from 35 ft
(10.6 m) diameter drilled tunnels to 2 in
(5 cm) diameter cored holes. He's
injected chemical grouts, microfine
cement and OPC cement, and jetted
grout into soils. He has grouted 60 ft

(18.2 m) single length thread bar with
polyester resin, installed soil nails,
anchors and micropiles. He has been
involved with dozens of liquefaction
mitigation projects using vibro
replacement methods and aggregate
piers. Avery obtained his bachelor's
and master's degrees in geotechnical
engineering from the University of
Arizona College of Mines.

Motamed

Martin B. (Marty) Hudson, Ph.D.,
P.E., G.E., is the director of geotechnical
engineering for the Turner Engineering
G r o u p o f Tu r n e r C o n s t r u c t i o n
Company, and also teaches courses on
foundation engineering at the UCLA
Samueli School of Engineering. Hudson
has worked as geotechnical engineer of
record on some of the largest projects in
California's history, including the
Wilshire Grand tower, Ronald Reagan
UCLA Medical Center, and new Century

Plaza twin tower development. He has
extensive experience with deep
excavations, shoring, soil nailing, MSE
walls, ground improvement, shallow
and deep foundations including driven
piles, drilled shafts, caissons, and
micropiles. He obtained his bachelor's
a n d m a s t e r ' s d e g r e e s f ro m t h e
University of California, Los Angeles,
and Ph.D. in civil engineering from the
University of California, Davis.
Ramin Motamed, Ph.D., P.E., is an
associate professor in the department
of civil & environmental engineering at
the University of Nevada, Reno.
Motamed's main areas of research
include deep foundations, LRFD,
liquefaction and mitigation measures,
and site response analysis. Previously,
he was an engineer and senior engineer
with Arup in San Francisco, and worked
on a variety of high-profile projects in
California that included the Transbay
Transit Center, War Memorial Veterans
Building, Apple Campus 2, Gerald
Desmond Bridge and the California
High-Speed Rail. Motamed received his
Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo.
DFI is excited to have these
members on board to lead the DFI46
