14 Making Expansion Possible: Mayo Clinic
Three new tunnels to accommodate pedestrians, utilities and services are under
construction on the ever-expanding campus of the renowned Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, Minnesota. Working at an existing and operational medical facility
has meant excavations are taking place in close activity to vibration sensitive
activities including robotic surgery units and MRIs. Along with geotechnical
constraints, the contractor has to retain access to the clinic at all times.
