Conference on Foundation Decarbonization and Reuse During the first two days of this event there will be four DFI Europe and KIVI (The Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers) are hosting a three-day event on foundation decarbonization and reuse on March 21-23. The conference is being held at the KIT Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, a city where foundation reuse is increasingly common. This can be because the loads have increased since the structure was designed, as is the case with the bridges in Amsterdam, or because a new building replaces a structure that no longer meets current requirements. Obviously reusing the existing foundation, possibly supplemented by new foundation elements, is a sustainable solution. But the question of what to do with the existing foundation has to be addressed. sessions with lectern presentations, focusing on basic issues when it comes to foundation reuse: * Session 1: The decision-making process regarding foundation decarbonization and reuse * Session 2: The inspection and testing of existing foundations to assess their suitability for reuse * Session 3: The design process when foundations are decarbonized or reused * Session 4: The construction phase when foundations are decarbonized or reused A keynote lecture will open each session, after which 25minute presentations will be scheduled. The session will then close with a moderated panel discussion, where the speakers and the attendees can have an open exchange of ideas on the session topic. On the third day of the event there will be a Buildings in Amsterdam site visit of two or more job sites in or near Amsterdam, where foundations are reused to provide the attendees with practical examples of this approach.
