Traveling Lecturer On the Road
The 2022-2023 Traveling Lecturer, Dan A. Brown, Ph.D., P.E.,
D.GE, chief engineer and senior principal, Dan Brown and
Associates, has been busy traveling to present lectures on a
variety of topics.
In addition to online lectures, Brown has traveled to
California, Missouri, Arizona, Ohio, Illinois, South Carolina
and Virginia to present lectures on topics ranging from
challenges with bridge foundations to examining modern
techniques for drilled shafts and continuous flight auger
piles, bi-directional cell load testing, and management of
risks and quality assurance of drilled foundations.

D. Richards, Jr., P.E., D.GE. Presented at the CalGeo Annual
Conference 2022, the lecture summarizes what working
platforms are, why the industry needs to improve the practice
around working platforms, summarizes two methods of
designing working platforms and discusses some lessons
learned for these methods. Specifically, the methods
discussed are the UK Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS)
published calculator and the UK Building Research
Establishment (BRE) method.
