Robert Hudson, P.E., is president of
S.T. Hudson Engineers. Hudson has
served as an engineer and a contractor
in heavy construction for over 40 years.
He presently leads his firm engaged in

Gary Almeraris, P.E., senior vice
president of operations for Skanska
USA Civil Northeast, has become
president of The Moles
for 2021-2022 and
received the " Moles
Gavel " during a recent
dinner for members of
the associat ion of
heavy construction
professionals. His career began in the
mid-1970s with MacLean Grove, where
he managed a series of tunnel
excavation projects in New York City,
Washington D.C. and Boston until 1987.
After joining Skanska/Slattery, he
continued with tunnel projects in those
regions, and is recognized globally as a
leading underground expert. Alemeraris
became a Moles member in 1989, and
considers mentoring young engineers
entering the tunneling industry as a
major accomplishment.
Commerce Construction Corporation,
where he oversees the specialty
construction company's overall operations
and demanding marine infrastructure,
deep foundat ion and
construction dive projects. Martino has
worked on the Paulsboro Marine
Terminal upgrade - Phase II in New
Jersey, the Energy Transfer Dock at Fort
Mifflin in Philadelphia, and the fish
passage at nearby Norristown Dam.
Michael F. Roach is the chief
engineer/estimator for the underground
division of
Traylor Bros., where
he works on numerous large tunnel and
transit projects throughout the U.S.
Roach has authored several publications,
including serving as a co-editor of
The History of Tunneling in the United States.
He has also served in executive positions
for the Rapid Excavation and
Tunneling Conference and on the
executive committee of the Underground
Construction Association.
Almeraris
Alissa Maxwell Weiss is president
and co-owner of the Hub Foundation
Company, a foundation company
started by her grandfather. Maxwell
Weiss began at Hub while receiving her
bachelor 's in geology at Hamilton
College, serving then as a laborer and
pile driver changing drill rig's teeth. She
continues to oversee the company's
projects that include SOE, drilled shafts,
drilled mini piles, slurry walls and
other drilled foundation elements
throughout the Northeast.
New Moles members also include
Richard A. Soppe, who was called in
along with his team from Center Rock
to address a mining disaster in Chile.
Eleven years ago, the world was
captivated by the plight of 33 miners

Sebastian Lobo-Guerrero, Ph.D., P.E.,
from American Geotechnical and
Environmental Services, recently
represented DFI in virtual presentations
in Spanish. On June 5, he covered the
state of the art regarding slope
stabilization with deep foundation
elements in South America for the
Peruvian Synergy Team. On June 16, he
delivered a talk with the same theme on
ground anchors, from design to
construction, for the MINSUP group.
And on June 29, he covered micropile
technology for the Peruvian National
University at Moquegua (UNAM).

ground for 69 days. Soppe and his team
successfully drilled the large diameter
(28 in [78 cm]) rescue shaft, facilitating
the miners' escape. Soppe currently
serves as an " expert drilling engineer
and critical problem solver. "
Thomas J. Trochalides Jr., is
area manager for Underpinning &
Foundation/Skanska. He manages the
company's deep foundation specialty
installations from Connecticut to
Washington D.C., and has been involved
in numerous contracts at Newtown
Creek, 2nd Avenue Subway and the 7
Line Extension. Trochalides has also coauthored
a series of case histories
studying tapered pile usage.
The Moles also recognized DFI
charter member Edward J. McNamara
as a life member. McNamara worked
with
Underpinning & Foundation from
1958 to his retirement in 1998.
