The Codes and Standards Committee
also monitors code developments from
the American Concrete Institute and the
American Society of Civil Engineers
(ASCE). ASCE has formed a new committee,
whose purpose wi l l be the
development of a new ASCE standard for
the design and construction of foundations.
Several DFI Codes and Standards
Committee members are also members
of this ASCE committee.
The International Code Council (ICC)
recently conducted its Committee
Action Hearings to consider code
change proposals for the 2024 International
Building Code. The GeoCoalition,
of which the Codes and Standards
Committee is an active participant,
submitted 12 code change proposals
(CCPs). Lori Simpson, P.E., G.E., Langan
Engineering and Environmental Services,
and Dan Stevenson, P.E., Berkel &
Company Contractors, attended these
hearings to testify in support of the
GeoCoalition's proposals. The ICC Committee
approved 9 of the 12 proposals.
These proposals now advance to the
public comment phase.

Manufacturers, Suppliers and Service Providers
The mi ss ion of
DFI 's Manufacturers,
Suppliers
and Service Providers (MSSP) Committee
is to give our corporate members
additional opportunities to educate,
provide resources for and partner with
fellow corporate members to improve
their processes and projects.
We aim to have both informative
and fun activities. On the informative
side, we are continuing to publish the
MSSP Spotlight eNewsletter, which
highlights new products and other
updates from our corporate members.
For 2022, we are emai l ing this
publication bi-monthly throughout the
year. Our committee will also present
the seventh edition of MSSP Expo
Sessions at DFI s Annual Conference at
'
National Harbor, Maryland, this
October. This parallel session, held in
the exhibit hall, provides a great
opportunity for corporate members to

Anchored Earth Retention
The Anchored Earth Retention Committee
is a joint committee between
The International Association of
Foundation Drilling (ADSC) and DFI that
is dedicated to providing support to
those that design, construct, supply and
own retaining structures supported by
ground anchor techniques, such as
tiebacks and soil nails, for both temporary
and permanent situations.
Currently, the committee is working
in conjunction with the Micropile
Committee on updating the state-ofpractice
document for hollow bars
under the leadership of Helen Robin68

anyone who has new pictures of hollow
bar installations and equipment to
please send them to Robinson or to the
committee for possible use in this
document. The goal of this subcommittee
is to expand acceptance and
approval of hollow bar for several deep
foundation applications.
ADSC and DFI came together in 2021
to jointly fund the Anchored Earth
Retention Committee's Synthesis of
Practice for Deformation Criteria for
Support of Excavation (SOE) Wall
Systems. The principal investigator of
Laczynski
Segar
this study is Antonio Marinucci, Ph.D.,
MBA, P.E., V2C Strategists. The research
consists of a literature review of current
practice and a survey of designers,
contractors and owners. From the
proposal, the project objectives:
The proposed research effort entails
evaluating the current criteria (permissible
values) by regulatory agencies and private
stakeholders regarding the deflection of
support of excavation (SOE) walls. The
introduce themselves and present new
products and or project successes to
conference attendees.

Committee organized an open mic
event during the welcome reception at
last year's Annual Conference in Las
Vegas and will reprise that event at
National Harbor this year. All are
invited to share their talents and add to
a fun night in the exhibit hall!
After the 2024 ICC code cycle
concludes, the GeoCoalition will begin
deliberations for potential CCPs for the
2027 code cycle. The Codes and Standards
Committee is seeking potential
CCPs from other DFI committees for
consideration.
The Codes and Standards Committee
continues to seek new initiatives for improving
the standards of practice for all
deep foundation industries. If anyone
