MICHAEL H. WYSOCKEY, PH.D., P.E.,
PRESIDENT
Everyone Benefits Working Together
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
DFI accomplishes the majority of what
it does through the work of our
committees. But there are important
activities carried out by other groups
within DFI. Specifically, I'd like to
emphasize the recent work of the DFI
Educational Trust and the interaction
of DFI Europe with the European
Federation of Foundation Contractors
(EFFC).
The Trust has a separate board of
directors that, by rule, includes the
current president and treasurer of DFI,
so it is something of an embedded
entity to support and grow the
industry. The Trust annual
report, which was mailed with
this issue of Deep Foundations
and is available online at
www.dfitrust.org, is impressive.
Chair Rudy Frizzi and the
other officers and trustees
have much to be proud of.
The primary goal of the
Educational Trust is to encourage
and support students in
pursuit of degrees supporting our
industry. The Trust has made a
difference and continues to ramp up
efforts. After giving $200,000 in scholarships
this past year, the ambitious
goal is to double this number next year.
DFI agreed to pay all the anticipated
administrative costs of the Trust for
2022 so that donors know that 100
percent of their donations will go to the
scholarships.
There has also been discussion of
starting a new initiative in the Trust for
support of industry-related research.
We are doing this currently through the
committee project fund, which has
been very successful inspiring the
committees to get things done. This
effort has been funded out of the DFI
budget, but this new initiative would
allow those wishing to contribute to
join in the effort more directly.
some way and the Trust is one of those
opportunities to help people make a
difference in our industry.
Similar to the DFI Educational Trust,
The DFI agreed to pay all the
anticipated administrative costs of
the Trust for 2022 so that donors
know that 100 percent of their
donations will go to the scholarships.
It is amazing how inspiring it can be
to know that some good is coming from
your efforts. I recently had the
opportunity help build two houses in
Costa Rica. My four kids and I were part
of a team of 20 that joined several Costa
Ricans working for Mercy Home
Missions to put both houses together in
just over one week. I believe that
everyone enjoys making a difference in
DFI Europe has its own board to direct
its activities. A key activity has been
working with EFFC. The EFFC is a great
partner for us, and we have done some
very positive and collaborative things
together. Some of the authoritative
products are: The EFFC-DFI Guide to
Support Fluids for Deep Foundations, the
EFFC/DFI Guide to Tremie Concrete for Deep
Foundations and the EFFC-DFI Guide to
Working Platforms. Three of the
four EFFC-DFI Task Groups
(Concrete, Support Fluids and
Wo r k i ng P l a t fo rms ) go t
together at the DFI-EFFC
International Conference on
Deep Foundations and Ground
Improvement in Berlin. The
Project Information Systems
(PIMS) and BIM/Digitalisation
(DFI Europe) Committees put
on a preconference workshop,
as did the DFI Sustainability Committee
and EFFC Sustainability Working
Group. The preconference workshops
were live-streamed and recorded.
We value our relationship with
EFFC and will continue to find common
ground to work together on. Thanks to
all who donate to the Trust and work
towards its mission.
