REGIONAL REPORT
Greetings from
DFI of India.
DFI of India
(DFII) is preparing
for its prestigious annual conference
being held in September. At the same
time, DFII accomplished important
activities in the past four months and
planned exciting programs for the
coming months.
DFI-India 2024
The 2024 annual conference is September
19-21 in Panaji, Goa, in collaboration
with the Indian Geotechnical
Society (IGS) Goa Chapter. The event is
being held at the historical Kala
Academy. Purnanand Savoikar, Ph.D.,
chair of IGS Goa, is the conference chair
supported by Sunil Basarkar, Ph.D., and
Jaykumar Shukla, Ph.D., as technical
committee chairs. The conference
includes expert keynote lectures, paper
presentations, a Women in Deep
Foundations (WiDF) India session,
student awards, a special session on
" Foundations for Tall Buildings, " and
debates on the latest techniques and
future trends in the deep foundation
industry in India and worldwide. It will
also provide an opportunity for various
stakeholders in the foundat ion
construction industry to exhibit the
latest technologies and equipment.
We opened the call for abstracts on
January 22 and received more than 180
submissions, out of which 160 were
accepted and invited to submit draft
papers. The peer review of the draft
papers is in progress, and we expect to
publish more than 75 papers this year.
The technical committee is meeting
frequently to develop the conference
program. We plan for seven keynote
speakers including Alessandro Mandolini,
chair, International Society for Soil
Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering's
TC212 Group and professor at
Università della Campania Luigi
Vanvitelli; M.R. Madhav, Ph.D., professor,
JNTU Hyderabad; V.R. Raju, Ph.D., group
sustainability director, Keller Group; and
Lucky Nagarajan, senior manager business
development/strategy, with
W. Allen Marr, Ph.D., P.E., NAE, former
CEO and senior strategic advisor, both of
Geocomp - GeoTesting Express.

DFI of India Training
Committee on Foundation
Technologies
The committee conducted its fifth
training program on Ground Improvement
for Foundation Construction on
May 18. It was a full-day hybrid
workshop conducted in person at Raj
Park Hotel, Chennai, and online. Leading
experts from industry and academia
participated and presented during the
event. The program started with a short
introduction about DFII by me, followed
by inauguration by K. Ilamparuthi, Anna
University, Chennai.
The speakers for this workshop were

engineering, Keller India, on the topic
