The committee also monitors code developments from the
American Concrete Institute and the American Society of
Civil Engineers (ASCE). ASCE has been working to develop a
new standard for the design and construction of foundations.
Several Codes and Standards Committee members are also
members of this ASCE committee.

Information Management Systems
The Information Management Systems
Committee continues to work toward our
mission of developing, tracking and
educating our members on the use of data tools for deep
foundations. In the past year, our membership has grown to
its largest size yet, and we are growing in diversity with
participation across several specialties and representation
from project owners, contractors, consultants, hardware and
software vendors, and academics.
We focused this year on promoting our comprehensive
Data Management Guide Specification - a free download from
www.members.dfi.org/publications-store- and soon hope to
publish the Grouting Data Management Specification. This
grout specification is a short document meant to provide
owners of small grout projects with quick and easy entry into
achieving basic data management objectives that can be met
by contractors with a range of skills and resources.

Testing and Evaluation
The Testing and Evaluation Committee
continues work on multiple projects most
recently taking on the ambitious task of
reviewing and updating a comprehensive nondestructive
testing guidance document. This task force intends to include
input from multiple committees and organizations, beginning
with reviewing current documentation and identifying areas
where there may be inadequate scope or outdated information.
The Static Load Test Task Force, led by Noah Miner, P.E.,
Malcom Drilling Company, continues its development of a
guidance document that will effectively serve as a supplement
to ASTM International standards for the different types of static
load tests on deep foundations. The current focus is on the
proper planning for a static load test.
The High-Strain Dynamic Testing (HSDT) Task Force,
under the leadership of David Tara, P.Eng., Thurber
Engineering, continues its work developing a course on HSDT.

Les Chernauskas, P.E., Geosciences Testing and Research,
and his team have submitted an initial draft of the final
report, which is out for comment, for their project on
evaluating thermal integrity profiling anomalies and rating
criteria. This project received funding from DFI's Committee
Project Fund program.
Gerald Verbeek, Allnamics, continues to promote the benefits
and savings related to incorporating testing into projects
with the IT$ Money Webinar Series. The next webinar is
August 14, 11:00 a.m. ET. If you have a suitable project that
would demonstrate the benefits of foundation testing, please
reach out to Verbeek or send an email to TechActivities@dfi.org.

are working on a lot of things and our web page has the most

Another goal this past year has been to expand our
communication and collaboration with other DFI committees.
To that end we have made progress on initiatives including
assigning our committee members responsibilities to liaise
with several different DFI committees and technologies;
facilitating and participating in the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers-DFI Seepage Control Workshop held in Denver this
past November and followed up with subcommittee meetings;
presenting a webinar on telemetry and measurement while
drilling led by Jeff Burton, P.Eng., Advanced Construction
Techniques, our vice chair; facilitating a well-attended and
energetic guided discussion on data sharing philosophies at
the recent IFCEE conference; and authoring bulletins updating
DFI on the state of the practice of addressing data management
project requirements with a focus on lessons learned from 15
years of foundation projects, quality control and quality
assurance data, and hardware and real-time data.
We continue to seek new initiatives and are committed to
improving the standards of practice for all deep foundation
