It's been an active year for the Driven Pile
Committee and we're looking to keep the
momentum going in 2024 and 2025. Over
the last several months we've had a
string of positive events. These have
included our latest !mpact webinar in
March, our well-attended DFI Midyear
Committee Week meeting in April, the
exceptional IFCEE 2024 conference in
May and the crown jewel of our technical
calendar, DFI SuperPile '24, in June. All of
these events have featured significant
contributions from our more than 60
committee members and have done well
to present the technical advantages,
current technologies and advancements
within the driven pile industry. At these
events and others over the last year, we as committee cochairs
have had the opportunity to speak and collaborate with
many engineers, equipment manufacturers and material
suppliers to continue deepening our understanding of what
makes driven piles a preferred solution in the deep
foundation marketplace.
Our primary ongoing initiative is the !mpact webinar
series that began in 2023. This series of PDH-eligible
webinars exhibits speakers from across the spectrum of
dr iven pi le foundat ions to highl ight innovat ive
developments, case studies and current practices in our field.
This year our committee will host four webinars. The series is
overseen and moderated by Travis Coleman, P.E., GRL
Engineers, and we still have opportunities for presenters in
our final two events of the year. We appreciate the support of
the community in attending these informative events and the
feedback we have received has been genuinely positive. We
hope !impact will continue to grow into a central pillar of DFI's
continuing education offerings.

The committee's other ongoing technical initiative
involves developing a document to offer further
understanding and guidance related to pile driving induced
vibrations. For as long as piles have been driven, the pile
driving industry has faced challenges related to vibrations,
including some that are misguided. We are reinvigorating
the subcommittee, including possible collaboration with the
Pile Driving Contractors Association, to finalize this resource
that will help contractors and other interested parties
successfully manage pile driving projects when vibration
concerns are voiced.
We thank DFI for the opportunity to lead this committee
and the committee members for their contributions. Our core
goal is to continue being a leading voice and technical
resource for the driven pile industry and ask for continued
support. Our group generally holds bimonthly virtual
meetings, currently scheduled for August and December, and
hosts in-person meetings at DFI's SuperPile and annual
conferences. In closing, we wish to encourage participation
from the large and diverse cross-section of DFI membership
that encompasses the driven pile industry.
