Completed building
Vista 10, Draper, Utah
A five-story steel and concrete office
building was constructed in Draper,
Utah, on imported and compacted fill.
The west and southern edges of the
building lot were supported by block
mechanically stabilized earth retaining
wall structures. Sometime after original
construction was completed, the
western spread footings of the structure
began to experience settlement. The rest
of the structure did not, however, and
the differential caused by this was
creating serviceability issues in the
floors above, such as doors being
jammed, visible cracks in the walls, and
ceilings and floors becoming uneven.
To remedy the distressed structure,
compaction grouting was chosen as the
primary method in conjunction with
push piers and polyurethane grouting to
stabilize and lift to presettlement
elevations. A total of nine spread footings
and a stairway structure required
treatment. The grouting contractor was
