Welcome to our Fall issue, where we explore the ever-changing
notion of luxury. While some remain familiar-check out our feature
of the Jeffrey Beers- and Champalimaud-designed Newbury Boston
(page 82) for a look into a modern upgrade to a building that housed
one of the fi rst-ever Ritz-Carltons in the U.S., and Yabu Pushelberg's
" super boutique " in London's Leicester Square (page 78)-it's never
been clearer that the term means different things to different
guests. See the Thompson Hollywood, a recent opening detailed on
page 67 that embodies the laidback luxury the brand is known for;
or the debut of the Faraway brand on Nantucket (page 86), a small
getaway on a summer-colony island with its own story to tell.
Gracing our cover is this year's Up-and-Coming Hotelier, Carolyn
Schneider, co-founder and president of Los Angeles-based Casetta
Group. The hospitality company is making compelling, innovative
moves in the boutique space, breathing life into small-key
properties and remaining hyper-focused on guest experience in
locations like San Diego and Palm Springs, with more California
locations and a New Mexico outpost on the near horizon. Read
about Schneider's background and hospitality philosophy (page
64)-we're sure you'll be hearing more about her company soon.
We also recognize the 2021 Boutique 18 class (19 when you count
one duo), designers who are moving the needle and catching the
industry's attention (page 45). We will celebrate them, plus a special
nod to last year's honorees, at the BDNY Kickoff Party on Saturday,
November 13th at Gotham Hall in New York.
Speaking of BDNY, we are thrilled to welcome the industry back
to the Javits Center for the main event, November 14-15th. While
we were fortunate to connect virtually last year, there's nothing
like gathering face-to-face, and we've been working hard to make
that possible. For a preview (page 24), check out highlights of the
four incredible Designed Spaces that will come to life on the trade
fair fl oor thanks to stellar design teams, sponsors, and exhibitors.
And learn from fi ve industry luminaries (page 32) who will take the
stage for the Boutique Design Power Players: Women Leaders in
Hospitality Breakfast and Panel Discussion, presented with NEWH.

fair, and the Gold Key Awards Gala on Monday, November 15th, are
