Melding the old with the new never rang as true as it does at Vipp Farmhouse,
the furniture and product maker's fourth hotel destination. The three-bedroom
getaway, is nestled in a forest on the 1,400-acre estate of Søllestedgaard
situated on the Danish island of Lolland.
The farmhouse, dating back to 1775, finds new purpose here as a peaceful
and cozy escape, one that combines the industrial design that Vipp is known
for with the romantic ambience of the old farmhouse. A whitewashed façade
topped with a thatched roof honors the traditional local architecture. While the
structure's shell retains its original identity, the newly furbished interior brings
us into the modern era of Scandinavian minimalism.
" To achieve what I had in mind, you have to mix the comforting and cozy
farmhouse style, like the old exposed wooden beams, with another style to
achieve the 'modern' farmhouse. Industrial design is perfect for this-but it
is a delicate balance, " says interior designer Julie Cloos Mølsgaard, who was
commissioned by Vipp and the estate owner Ulrik Th. Jørgensen.
Those industrial elements provides the grit needed for a " fresh edge, "
she adds, balanced by neutral tones for a curated look that doesn't feel either
too eclectic or too rustic. Further modernism is seen throughout the interiors,
especially the Vipp V1 kitchen in gray steel, which runs from wall to wall.
Cloos Mølsgaard says the space helps to mix up the style and keep things
unpredictable. " It has been both a challenging and exciting project to merge old
with new, " she notes. " I wanted both the interior and the house to shine. "
