SECURITY CORNER
GSX 2022 Enjoys Reinvigorated Conference Vibe
ENTHUSIASM RAN HIGH and foot traffic was fairly brisk as
an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 security professionals took
part in the Global Security Exchange (GSX) show Sept. 12-14
at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
Produced by the American Society for Industrial Security
(ASIS), GSX spotlighted several hundred technology, equipment
and service vendors in the exhibit hall, and offered the event's
customary plethora of educational sessions, keynote presentations
and networking activities on and off the show floor.
Following several years of dwindling participation in this
high-profile expo - which along with ISC West has long
served as the industry's most important gathering - and
then being maligned by the pandemic followed by a disappointing
2021 edition, it's not surprising that many ventured
to Atlanta holding their expectations in check.
Fortunately, the quantity and quality of the turnout sated
nearly all the attendees to whom Security Sales & Integration
- CE Pro's security-focused sister publication - spoke and
most of the vendors as well.
From a technology perspective, the overriding themes were
access control and video surveillance refinements and deeper
integrations, video and operational software and analytics,
cloud-based platforms, and applying artificial intelligence
across the board.
Robotics also continued its recent elevated presence,
making for some of the more eye-catching and fascinating (for
some perhaps even a bit scary) demos.
Supply chain challenges remained prominent in conversations
as vendors reaffirmed their commitments to channel
partners, with everyone overcommunicating to collaboratively
problem solve an issue anticipated to flow into at least
some of 2023.
Here's a taste of what exhibitors were showing among the
dozens visited by Security Sales & Integration:
VIVOTEK unveiled its cloud-based video surveillance as
a service (VSaaS) VORTEX product. GSX served as a soft
launch for the VMS, which features advanced search capabilities,
with the full release available by year end. VORTEX
represents the company's debut in the subscriptions market,
along with the ability to consolidate camera, app, web, cloud
and deep learning technology into a cohesive and powerful
AI surveillance solution.
Alcatraz AI showcased its Rock product, which deploys
autonomous access control through facial authentication
technology incorporating artificial intelligence, data analytics
and the individuality of the human face. With features like
multifactor authentication, identity verification, tailgating
detection, and video at the door and turnstile, Alcatraz becepro.com

and datacenters.
i-PRO, as it continues to move out from the shadow of
its former Panasonic branding, showed more than 30 new
products. The company has focused its development on
compact designs, easy installation and an open platform that
supports industry-leading AI-based edge analytics, powered
by Ambarella SoCs. Equipped with a high level of cybersecurity,
i-PRO's new cameras represent some of the smallest form
factors on the market.
Axis demonstrated its next-generation panoramic dome
camera, a new compact door controller capable of storing
250k credentials, a connectivity hub to securely integrate
audio equipment and sensors, an AI-based time-in-area object
analytics feature, body-worn cameras, speaker updates,
and more.
Genetec announced a major new release of its flagship
unified security platform, Security Center. With version 5.11,
customers will have access to every module of Security Center,
including Omnicast (video monitoring), Synergis (access
control), AutoVu (automatic license plate recognition), Sipelia
(intercom) and intrusion monitoring, right out of the box.
Napco emphasized its new larger FireLink XL 255 addressable
fire alarm control panel (FACP) at the show. As before,
the latest offering includes an all-in-one design, onboard cell/
IP-communicator and LCD annunciator, but its new XL housing
is said to bring more powerful features such as a 7A/24V
power supply.
Vistacom demonstrated how its SecureView solution
provides intelligent command center operators with a singlepane-of-glass
view of operations across their video wall infrastructure
and enables the seamless assimilation of data feeds
while creating a more simplified workflow. -Scott Goldfine,
