for home functions and even
be used to program specific
notifications for those aging
in place. A reminder to drink
water or take medication be
set to issue at regular intervals
through the integration
of the hub.
Other custom integrations
can also be added
based on the lifestyle and
home set-up of the individual.
For instance, say a
client frequently forgets to
turn off the back porchlight
before returning to their
bed on the second floor of
their home. Then, when they
are in their bed, they notice
the light out back flooding
into their room, potentially
impacting their sleep.
Connecting a smart light
through a voice control hub,
a simple command can be
programed to shut off the
light, rather than requiring
the individual to walk back
downstairs to turn it off.
While simple, this level of
customization allows the integrator
to identify specific
pain points in a client's daily
routine and develop specific,
aging-in-place automations
surrounding that.
Smart Sensors Remove
Need for Tedious,
Repetitive Tasks
The fastest route to
making a senior-friendly
technology solution has to
be through sensors. The
growth of the sensor market
has come with a rise in
intelligence across nearly all
technology that could ever
be present in the home,
and that translates to more
convenience and less effort
for a user to maintain a
comfortable environment
for themselves.
Using air quality as an
example, a simple monitoring
sensor can be combined
with either a whole home
or in-unit air purifier to help
keep the indoor air quality
at healthy levels based
on parameters set by the
integrator.
Lighting can be made
to act based on motion
through simple solutions
that only require the replacement
of a light switch
in many cases. Combined
with circadian lighting, this
can also facilitate better
sleep schedules which can
improve occupant wellbeing
as well as alertness, potentially
reducing chances
of accidents for those aging
in place.
Newer retrofit technologies
available to integrators
have even made it so that
the average swing door of a
home can be set to respond
through specific sensors
in the case of those with
greatly limited mobility.
With Z-Wave compatibility,
devices like AutoSwing
open access to a robust
network of controls, relays
and sensors that can create
senior-friendly technology
solutions that maintain the
home-like aesthetic for
residents.

Sound United Parent
Masimo Expands HEOS
into Healthcare Platform
LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY from its recent acquisition
of Sound United, Masimo announced the expansion of the
HEOS wireless multiroom audio platform to provide a robust
and always-on connection to the Masimo Health secure
cloud. This feature adds the ability to aggregate, record, and
display health data from wearable Masimo continuous and
spot-check health and wellness devices.
Utilizing the HEOS ecosystem, the Masimo Health secure
cloud solution will seamlessly be made available to the users
of over 4 million HEOS-enabled premium devices from
brands such as Denon, Marantz and Definitive Technology.
The HEOS expansion will provide users access to secure,
continuous health data from the comfort of home, and facilitate
their ability to share data with clinicians and loved ones,
according to Masimo.
The Masimo W1 advanced health tracking watch is among
the devices that will wirelessly relay data to the HEOS
and Masimo Health cloud.
" Today represents a major milestone in the integration
of our iconic, premium audio brands and our revolutionary
healthcare products designed to save and improve lives, "
says Joe Kiani, founder and CEO of Masimo.
Masimo says the solution will initially be made available via
software upgrade in over 20,000 HEOS Denon Home devices
and Masimo Home Health Hubs in the U.S. An additional
4 million devices are planned for activation in 2023.
Making good on potential cross-use of technologies from
Sound United, Masimo is bolstering its health and wellness
capabilities. The Masimo W1 advanced health tracking watch,
Masimo SafetyNet patient management solution with Radius
PPG and Radius TÂș sensors, and many more devices, will not
only wirelessly relay data to the HEOS and Masimo Health
cloud for storage, analysis, reporting, and transfer, but make
this data available via in-home displays and apps, alongside
custom notifications and reminders, the company notes.
