Samsung TVs Can Function as Smart Home Controllers
appearance wasn't only
highlighted by the company's
innovations in large
screens and appliances,
but also its smart home
platform SmartThings, which
is getting several key new
features and improvements
such as Map View alongside
new integrations with Tesla
energy products.
These features include
the ability to control smart
home systems with a TV
functioning as a SmartThings
Hub, a new Map View
feature, and the ability to
share smart home devices
with family, friends and
guests through a QR code.
Samsung says users will
be able to use the SmartThings
TV Quick Panel as an
interface for quick access to
core functions via a remote
control, bridging the gap between
Samsung TV features
and connectivity without
impacting content viewing.
Users can access the TV
Quick Panel to manage devices,
view cameras and even
ring their phone when it's
lost in the couch cushions.
Samsung says this new
feature allows users to
oversee their entire smart
home without taking their
eyes off their Samsung TV.
In fact, the TV will also
turn on as users approach
it, presenting their home's
entertainment as well as
information about their
devices and appliances.
Users can see their
home's camera feed, temperature
and even remaining
time in their laundry
cycle from the TV Quick
Panel, the company says.
The SmartThings improvements
also include a new
Now+ display that syncs
with TVs to guide users
through switching music
sources from their Buds to
the TV speaker or sound
bar. This feature also offers a
comprehensive summary of
the home, including insights
into cameras and energy
consumption, Samsung says.
In addition, users can
leverage the new TV Hue
Sync to control lighting and
create an immersive viewing
experience by syncing TV
content and ambient lighting.
This is designed to make lights
and colors match on-screen
animation, the company says.

in the home's layout, which
is designed to make smart
device control easier and
more convenient. Instead
of just a list of rooms and
devices, users can navigate

in that room. Users can see

Google Home, Chromecast Coming to LG Displays This Year
partnering to bring built-in
Chromecast and Google
Home to LG TVs, the companies
announced during
CES 2024.
Google says it will extend
that Chromecast built-in
feature to LG Hospitality
and Healthcare. Allowing
users to stream apps on the
LG TV in their room without
having to log into each app
on the TV separately.
This rivals similar features
like Apple's AirPlay, which
already comes built-into
several TVs from different
manufacturers, as well as in
Apple TV devices.

In a blog post announcing
CES news, Google says
Chromecast will also come
built-in the latest 2024
Hisense ULED and ULED
X Series TVs as well as TCL
Q Class and TCL QM7 TVs
announced during the show.
Erik Kay, vice president
of engineering at Google,
said during a presentation
that LG is collaborating
with Google to make LG
and ThinQ products work
more seamlessly with
Google Home. Essentially,
LG TVs will act as hubs for
Google Home, allowing
users to set up and control
any Matter device.
Users will also be able to
see and control both LG,
Google and Google Home
devices right from the TV or
the ThinQ app. These features
will be released later
this year, Kay says.
What level of functionality
the LG and Google Home
collaboration will bring is
unclear, but in the blog post
announcing CES news, Google
says LG TVs, select Google
TV and other Android TV
OS devices will be able to
act as hubs for Google home.
" So if you have a Nest
Hub, Nest Mini or compatible
TV, it's easy to add Matter
devices to your home
network and locally control
them with the Google
Home app, " the company
states in a blog.
The partnership bolsters
functionality and
convenience for users.
