Market Foray
New ic6 In-ceiling Speakers and DLC250.4
Distribution Loudspeaker Controller
aimed at addressing both resimercial
and residential audio applications.

BACK IN EARLY 2020 just
before the world shut down
due to COVID-19, Paul Hales
of Pro Audio Technology
came to market with his new
Theory Audio Design brand.
At the time, Hales noted
that his long-term roadmap
included entry into the commercial
audio market.
Those plans finally came to
fruition in March 2022, when
Hales and the Theory Audio
Design team announced the
brand's new ic6 In-ceiling
Loudspeaker, as well as its
new companion pendant
housings and mounting
brackets, plus the 4-channel
DLC-250.4 Distribution
Loudspeaker Controller.
According to the company,
these new products allow
integrators to address residential
and commercial AV installations
without sacrificing
interior design aesthetics and
high levels of performance.
The ic6 is the brand's first
in-ceiling product model, and
the product was developed
to serve integrators as a

discreet loudspeaker that
can be used for surround
sound, distributed audio and
outdoor audio when paired
with an optional all-weather
grille, according to the company.
The speaker can also
install into open-ceiling and
exposed environments when
integrated into one of its new
pendant housings, for a more
traditional commercial/resimercial
form factor that offers
integrators extreme installation
flexibility.
The speaker is capable of
achieving output levels as
high as 112dB, and features
Polymer compression drivers
and a 6-inch, carbon-fiber
woofer. Supporting its versatility,
the ic6 incorporates a
selectable 70-volt/100-volt
transformer that is designed
to mate with the new DLC250.4.
Meeting
the requirements
of the commercial AV market,
Theory Audio Design also
notes the ic6 is UL-listed for
fire signaling, and for use in
air-handling spaces.
Pro Audio Technology sister company Theory Audio Design
introduced its ic6 speakers and DLC-250.4 controller featuring
commercial-friendly features.
The Lake Forest, Calif.based
audio manufacturer
offers the pendant housings
in a paintable matte white or
paintable matte black finish
with matching black speaker
grilles, and gloss black to
come next.
Each DLC-250.4 offers
4-channels of intelligent
power with channel-pair
power sharing up to 250
watts, a full DSP matrix, and is
TCP/IP controlled through a
wired connection, or directly
via its on-board Wi-Fi access
point, Theory Audio explains.
" Because the DLC can
operate in both 8-ohm or
70V/100V modes, separately
or in combination, and because
all of our architectural
loudspeakers have the same
dual operation, systems of
any size or complexity can
easily be realized from a tiny
half-rack space unit, " Hales
adds.
Via its configurable
outputs, the DLC-250.4 can
drive up to 16 Theory Audio
16-ohm ceiling or pendant
loudspeakers in Lo-Z mode,
and up to 64 Theory Audio
architectural speakers in Hi-Z
mode, or an optimal hybrid
of both.
Theory says that's beneficial
in commercial spaces like
bars, restaurants, retail environments,
fitness centers, and
spas where a combination
of power, from quiet background
to loud foreground
audio, is required.
The S/PDIF master/slave
functionality allows multiple
DLCs to be used to cover
various applications in commercial/resimercial
verticals or
residential home theaters and
surround-sound systems.
