WHEN IT COMES TO THE LIGHTING MARKET, the
future's so bright, you gotta wear shades (and install
shades ... along with fixtures and controls). OK, forgive the
weak pun on the lyrics of that 1980s hit song by one-hit
wonder Timbuk3, but the market for lighting controls, lighting
fixtures and motorized shades is anything but weak and
certainly not a one-hit wonder.
Indeed, the staying power of the market is clearly evident in
the new 2021 CE Pro Lighting & Shade Deep Dive Study, which
shows a remarkable 44% rise in the median number of residential
lighting projects done by integrators in one year! And,
integrators report that over the past year, nearly half (47%) of
all their residential installations included some combination of
lighting controls, lighting fixtures or motorized shades. According
to the data, the median number of residential projects that

included lighting controls, lighting fixtures or motorized shades
was 26. That represents nearly half of all residential projects
that integrators will perform (on average 55) per year. Clearly,
the lighting/shade business is beginning to rival audio and video
in terms of the most commonly installed subsystem.

Study offers an in-depth look at the three-pronged force
that is the lighting market today: Lighting Controls, Lighting
Fixtures and Motorized Shades. The 2021 CE Pro Lighting and
Shade Deep Dive Study, which was conducted in August 2021
and had 255 respondents, also revealed that while the typical
number of lighting installations rose, the typical size of a lighting-related
installation did not increase.
According to the data, the breakdowns for the various subsystem
segments of the lighting market are somewhat similar.
