FINAL THOUGHTS
Expanded Services You Should
Be Thinking About
Something Worth
Celebrating
EVEN AS SOMEONE who, for countless years,
has anticipated the annual Oscars telecast
as though it were a personal holiday, I know
awards can be an acquired taste. For the naysayers,
ceremonies like the Oscars, the Emmys
and the GRAMMYs amount to little more than
members of a privileged club celebrating how
wonderful they are. And then, of course, there's
the sheer quantity of awards presentations.
For cinema alone, it's easy to lose count: the
Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors
Guild Awards, the BAFTAs, and
on and on. Someone might reasonably
wonder what makes one
statuette different from another,
and whether a win in any given
category would even attract
attention amid all the awards that
organizations bestow. Call me
earnest or naïve, but I do believe
awards have meaning, and I
hope the issue you've just read
has made you second-guess any
reflexive skepticism.
Let me lay out my thinking. There's no
disputing that the commercial AV industry
has had a turbulent past two-and-a-half years.
Obviously, the COVID-19 pandemic was the
first domino to topple, but the succession of
dominos to fall has seemed endless. We had a
fast and deep recession; we've faced profound
supply-chain challenges; we've witnessed a
newly empowered labor force seemingly able
to dictate its own employment terms; we've
posted inflation numbers that the U.S. has not
seen since the early '80s; and a global conflict
has arisen that has further soured already-rocky
relations between the west and nuclear-armed
Russia. Commercial AV vendors have had to
expend energy to get core components for
their solutions; in many cases, R&D teams have
had to consider redesigns and adaptations.
And integrators have battled the twin dragons
of difficulty securing equipment allocation and
months-long delays to gain unfettered jobsite
access. We've all been through a lot.
Those facts color my thinking about CommerUnbounded

cial Integrator initiatives like the BEST Awards
and the Integration Awards, whose winners we
honor this month. Stated simply, I'm incredibly
impressed by the wizardry of the product
designers and developers who used these challenging
times to exercise their creativity and
unleash their imagination. From microphones
to digital signage to enterprise controls, BEST
Award winners are the products
that you will spec and integrate
again and again. They'll make
your projects more profitable,
your clients more satisfied and
end users' experiences more
exceptional. In our minds, that's
worth cheering for. After all, it's
the heart of what integrators do.
Speaking of heart, this year's
Integration Award winners have
shown a lot of it. These days,
to lure people from their homes, commercial
environments must be memorable...be immersive...leave
an indelible impression. As you
read our Integration Awards coverage, I trust
you noticed integrators' commitment to those
ideals. In particular, experiential designer and
integrator Electrosonic, which captured three
awards, illustrated this past year what unfailingly
will draw people off their couches - namely,
pure, unfettered wonderment.
Rising to and meeting the challenges of
our time is worth celebrating. Unbounded
creativity and imagination are worth highlighting.
Visitor-thrilling experiences are worth
trumpeting. That's what CI and I believe. And
we'll gladly push the spotlight onto those who
deserve it most.

You might be thinking that, in these
turbulent times, the smart move would
be to keep focusing on only one service
and to grow your business by adding
new accounts. However, according
to the Harvard Business Review, it's
actually 25 times more expensive to
gain a new customer than it is to satisfy
an existing one. The real question,
therefore, is different: Where do you
start in your efforts to offer more than
one type of service?
Commercial Integrator presents an
eguide that helps to answer that question.
If you're interested in growing your
business by adding offerings for your
customers, CI can help. In this guide,
you'll find practical, actionable insights
on how to add to your services, why
it's worth doing and who you should
be targeting. Best of all, there's a lot of
firsthand advice from industry experts
and providers to help you get started.

What
You Should Know About
Patented LOB Technology
With the popularity of new media
advertising, more creativity and revenue
dollars rely on outdoor LED displays to
clearly present messaging. For example,
in recent years, naked-eye 3D displays and
multimedia interactive devices for various
shopping malls and art exhibitions have
become very popular. According to the
outlook of eMarketer in 2022, digital outof-home
(DOOH) advertising expenditure
is expected to increase from $2.72 billion
in 2020 to $3.84 billion in 2023.
Thus, clearly, there is very significant
market growth. What's more, the LED
display market is predicted to increase
to $12-plus billion in 2025. So, now is
the time to download a new whitepaper
that will enable you to learn about new
and strategic opportunities in DOOH to
reduce light pollution, electrical usage
and light decay from direct sunlight
during the daytime hours. It's available for
download now.
