Diversified was Collins'
" third child, " in a sense. And
even though he realized
that they were building
something great, he still
recognized the importance
of work/life balance. Thus,
he always tried to reserve
weekends for family time.
Sometimes, however, that
wasn't possible. " Problems
have a tendency to roll uphill, "
Collins explains. " Every
weakness of your organization
comes right to your
face, and you must answer
[for] that. Naturally, that
pressure can bring stress. "
His strategy, he says, has
always been just to let the
stress flow through him and
to try to find inner peace.
Collins adds that,
although stress can be inevitable,
he always aimed to
create a fun work environment.
And, he says, he knew
that Diversified was on the
right track when employees
would willingly stay late
to help achieve goals and
finish projects.
These days, Collins is
very aware of the ongoing
change in technology.
First, hardware turned into
software; now, software is
shifting to the cloud. " You
need to adjust yourself
to the latest black magic
and keep learning the new
value proposition for your
clients...the new tech language, "
he says.
Most of all, Collins advises
the new generation to AV
professionals to be patient.
He thinks that, for people to
grow, they must invest their
time and face some difficulties.
In the end, their efforts
will help the new generation
view our industry as cool
and as increasingly important
to our everyday lives.
A formidable veteran,
Collins is not ready to retire
anytime soon. In fact, he
has started his own consulting
business, offering
expertise and insights to
clients in the AV industry.
He also recently joined
the board of PSNI Global
Alliance. Collins has hinted
at another board announcement
that is coming shortly,
underscoring his continued
involvement in and influence
over the AV field.

Jarrell Legagneur is no
exception to that truism. Legagneur's
passions are audio
engineering and music
production/mixing, as well
as sales. He found the perfect
way to combine them
when he became part of the
Herman Integration team
six months ago. Legagneur
collaborates with AV
integrators in the northeast
to identify subcontractedlabor
opportunities.
Legagneur obtained
an associate degree from
Pillars University; however,
he felt lost as regards his
career. He sampled different
jobs, looking for inspiration
and direction. Yet, he
remained unhappy with
the values and leadership
of his employers. Legagneur
sought advice from
audiobooks, learning how to
boost his sales abilities and
his effectiveness in both his
work life and his personal
life. He states, " Whatever
I do takes discipline and
effort and work - it's not
going to just happen. "
Legagneur appreciated
finding a good mentor, and
he applied what he learned
to his daily work.

sees as a sign of progress.
Legagneur believes that diversity,

can benefit both employees
and clients. " Through

we can generate effort and
energy that can inspire positive
changes, " Legagneur
states. He also feels that
diversity within an organization
can foster innovation
and help companies
reach new customers that
they might otherwise have
missed. " It's about committing

perspectives and finding

Legagneur adds. " We can

Legagneur resides in
Somerset, N.J., with his wife
and three little children. His
hobbies include recording
and producing music, as
well as listening to audiobooks.
