WHEN MY PREDECESSOR, Jonathan
Blackwood, handed the reins of Commercial
Integrator to me, I realized that I was inheriting
a property whose value to the commercial
AV community had never been greater. Think
about it: In November 2021, we were more
than 18 months into a devastating pandemic,
with another wave (omicron) imminent;
supply-chain snarls were protracting project
timelines and leaving equipment allocations
uncertain; multi-decade-high infl ation rates
were already beginning to materialize; and
The Great Resignation was causing integration
companies to wonder if they could hang
onto their talent. CI is a business handbook
for AV professionals...a trusted guide that
helps integrators run better, more successful
businesses. When turbulence leaves prospects
uncertain, that is precisely when expert
guidance is most indispensable. In assuming
the editor-in-chief position, I recognized that
I bore responsibility for helping our integrator
audience weather the storm.
But I'm a technology journalist and reporter,
not a technologist or an analyst. That
means it's incumbent on CI to forge partnerships
with those in the trenches - those
like our columnists, Alan Brawn and Alesia
Hendley - who live and breathe these issues
every day. What's more, CI must forge organizational
alliances with respected associations
that have a sterling reputation for agnostic
education and thought leadership, as well as
for an ahead-of-the-curve understanding of
technology ecosystems.
I'm thrilled to say that we cemented just
such an alliance early last month with IMCCA,
a nonprofi t industry association for UC&C
that's celebrating its 23rd
anniversary this
year. Under the leadership of executive director
Carol Zelkin and with the ever-present
guidance of director of emerging technology
David Danto, IMCCA off ers unmatched
insight into the future of work and the future
of life as it relates to technology.
Although this alliance will continue to
blossom, benefi ting you - our audience - in
commercialintegrator.com
the process, the most immediate eff ect is the
birth of a supplement to CI, which will be
called Collaboration Today and Tomorrow.
It will debut around InfoComm.
The supplement's contributors will be
experts in the fi elds of UC&C, commercial
systems integration, security, consumer electronics,
education, consulting and residential
systems installation. What's more, David, as
editorial lead, will curate expert opinion in
each edition, including insights from industry
analysts and the end-user community. As the
barriers between technology categories blur
and deployments become more ever more
ecosystem-driven, Collaboration Today and
Tomorrow will position your integration business
to capitalize on the disruptive transformations
still unfolding.
I don't want to tip our hand too early, but I
believe the premiere edition of Collaboration
Today and Tomorrow will prove our point.
It will underline how the work-from-home
(WFH) revolution, the drive for meeting equity,
our current environment of 24/7 collaboration
and the ascendance of IP networks to
facilitate AV experiences present an opportunity
that will empower integrators to be
more profi table - and more indispensable
to their clients - than ever before. Just a few
of the thought leaders we've lined up for the
fi rst edition are Sapphire Marketing's Marla
Suttenberg, Communications Design Associates'
Michael Goldman, Frost & Sullivan's
Roopam Jain and Planar's Lainie Mataras. In
choosing authors, we have prioritized, and
will continue to seek, expertise, diversity and
uniquely insightful perspectives.
The last couple of years have been an odyssey,
and the challenges show no sign of abating.
But rest assured that CI has your back,
and we'll continue to partner with those
who'll help us to help you. We are - and will
remain - your business handbook.
