CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY

Prior to this renovation and expansion, Abbey
Delray offered a variety of independent living
options, as well as a large skilled nursing and
rehabilitation facility, but was missing elements
of a continuing care retirement community.
The large-scale expansion and renovation at
Abbey Delray's Life Care Community provided
these missing elements, which included 48 assisted
living apartments on two stories and dedicated
amenity space, and a single-story, 30-unit
memory care wing also with amenities and free
access to a meaningful wandering garden.

forming Arts Center, a state-of-the-art fitness
center, a fully renovated heated outdoor pool,
spa and salon services, enhanced restaurantstyle
dining featuring an open expo kitchen and
outdoor terrace table service, expanded outdoor
gardens, and new private and semi-private suites
for assisted living. All of these amenities further
elevate this luxury senior living community while
providing the peace of mind that future healthcare
needs are available within the campus setting.
Expanding and renovating the main dining
room on campus without disrupting dining services
for the residents was addressed through
project phasing. The Performing Arts Center
was constructed first, and with temporary finishes
and even a temporary dishwash room
constructed on the patio, it served as the dining
room during renovation.
The main lobby is literally the central hub where
access to the performing arts center, lounge, dining,
library, wellness, assisted living, and memory
care converge. Circular architectural forms and
interior elements embrace this hub function and
allow for access to multiple destinations, while
also defining the central seating area.
The new building wraps the existing pool on
two sides and provides deep shade from the
south and west sun. The configuration of the
new construction creates " pocket parks " and
" outdoor rooms " which are lush with landscape
and shade opportunities. Independent living
residents may opt for traveling from apartments
to dining and activities through the landscape
or, when the weather is inclement, through open
pedestrian connectors.
