EXPO & CONFERENCE
Session spotlight
The 2021 EFA Expo features a robust lineup of curated content
focused on the design of senior living environments-all
approved for continuing education units (CEUs). This year,
sessions are programmed into eight tracks across the conference's
three days, with two pre-conference workshops taking
place Aug. 28 and three keynotes throughout the conference
adding to the accredited courses available. Within the program,
attendees will also fi nd timely sessions from industry
organizations, associations, and EFA magazine.
SUNDAY | AUG. 29
9:45-10:45 a.m.
Changes Ahead: A Sneak Peek of the 2022 FGI Guidelines
Members of the Residential Document Group of the Facility Guidelines Institute's
Health Guidelines Revisions Committee will review upcoming changes, including
language on minimum square footage requirements, the defi nition of typologies
for assisted living, and infection control.

AIA DFA Fellows: Innovations in Senior Living Design
Research
The AIA Design for Aging Knowledge Community Fellowship works with young
designers on senior-specifi c topics and promotes rigorous academic research in
design for older adults. This session highlights three fellows who will present their
research process and fi ndings.
MONDAY | AUG. 30
9-10 a.m.
The Changemaker
Patricia Moore will receive The Center for Health Design's 2021 Changemaker
Award in this Day 2 keynote. Moore is a renowned gerontologist and designer and
serves as an authority on consumer lifespan behaviors and requirements.
10:30-11:30 a.m.
EFA Design Showcase Awards: A Presentation
of Industry-Leading Design Excellence
This session will review the Award of Merit and Honorable Mention winners from
the 2021 EFA Design Showcase. Panelists will include members from the winning
fi rms as well as a juror to offer a holistic view of the program and projects.
TUESDAY | AUG. 31
Noon-1 p.m.
Closing Panel
To help the industry navigate the next phase of senior living design following
COVID-19, a panel of experts will identify four key strategies the industry must
embrace and implement post-pandemic, moderated by EFA Editor-in-Chief
Jennifer Kovacs Silvis.

being held Sunday, Aug. 29.
We'll share the outstanding
projects and professionals
recognized in the Design
Showcase, Remodel/
Renovation Competition, and
Design Champions programs
in the past year, as well as
give a special shout-out to the
winners we weren't able to
applaud in person in 2020.
Making history
EFA's annual networking party
offers attendees the chance to
unwind and enjoy the charm
of Chattanooga. The history of
the city will be on full display
at this year's venue, The Read
House, a luxury boutique hotel
recently restored to its 1926
grandeur. From 5:30-7:30 p.m.
on Monday, Aug. 30, the party
offers the chance to enjoy
local food, drinks, and lots of
catching up.
