" We wanted the space to live and breathe that
future with fully working food computers and
a kitchen with drawings from a child, " says
Jain. " It's a window view suggesting familiar
domestic lives but lived in a very diff erent
world. " Experiencing the installation
" becomes a way of thinking about what the
future means to you, " says Ardern. " We didn't
want to be too dystopic. We wanted to create a
world that had some hope in it. "
As artistic director, Ardern likes to focus

In Refuge of Resurgence, a multi-species

is an immersive ecological archive of our planet's biodiversity

half shows a thriving ecology in that climatealtered
future with the window view showing
a transformed world.
The future, Ardern says, can be radically
diff erent than we think. " We have the tools at
our disposal to make it an amazing, positive
future, we just need to think bigger. We
need to think about future generations and
consider them a part of ourselves, so we don't
continue to make the same mistakes. "
