" We have been experimenting with the use of shipping containers as a building material for a long time in typologies ranging from hotels to workspaces, " says principal architect Akshat Bhatt . " This experience has made us fairly profi cient in the art of converting repurposed shipping containers into high-quality, usable spaces. " Enter Mohalla Clinics, developed by Architecture Discipline as part of the Indian government's aff ordable healthcare initiative. Thermally insulated with sustainable birchwood to protect against external heat and maintain internal temperatures with air conditioning, containers are also fi xed upon small concrete pile footings to minimize Mohalla's impact on the earth. So far, two Mohalla Clinics are open in urban sett lements in Delhi, but 16,000 clinics will soon be deployed across each constituency in Punjab. Additionally, the fi rm is in talks with Nepalese and Australian governments to expand the concept. hospitalitydesign.com October 2022 025 Photos by JEETIN SHARMAhttp://www.hospitalitydesign.com
