PREVIEW
Cleveland is a hotbed of healthcare activity, and the 2021 HCD Expo will showcase some of
the area's most respected medical institutions. Facility tours are scheduled from 1-5 p.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 23, with registration available at HCDexpo.com.
T01: AKRON CHILDREN'S
HOSPITAL, AKRON CAMPUS
This recent 600,000-squarefoot
project includes two
seven-story additions and
connecting bridges. During
the tour, attendees will learn
about the hospital's Lean
principles in the design of
workspaces, primary care,
secondary care, emergency,
surgery, and neonatal intensive
care departments.
T02: CLEVELAND CLINIC
AVON HOSPITAL
This facility includes a
225,000-square-foot
inpatient bed tower with
126 beds, new operating
rooms, and expanded ED
and imaging departments.
Interdisciplinary work areas
on the patient fl oors provide
an enhanced teaming environment
and reduce noise
levels at night. The hospital
was developed on an environmentally
sensitive site that
includes wetlands.
T03: CLEVELAND CLINIC
HEALTH EDUCATION
CAMPUS
A collaboration between
Case Western Reserve University
and Cleveland Clinic, this
medical education campus
consolidates four medical
schools under one roof. Situated
on an 11-acre site on
Cleveland Clinic's main campus,
the 477,000-square-foot
facility has become a local
architectural landmark and
features innovations to fuel
learning and collaboration.
T04: CLEVELAND CLINIC
MAIN CAMPUS + ART TOUR
Cleveland Clinic, celebrating
its centennial anniversary
this year, comprises
13 million square feet on
168 acres, from its original
1921 building to a new
heart center. Attendees can
explore some of the campus
highlights, including one of
the largest contemporary art
collections in a healthcare
institution that's integrated
throughout the campus.
T05: METROHEALTH GLICK
CENTER
Part of a multiphase
campus transformation,
the Glick Center is a new
720,000-square-foot
hospital podium and tower
that will house 380 beds,
imaging and interventional
departments, support
spaces, and a central utility
plant. A " process neutral "
concept provides fl exibility
and adaptability for future
operations. It's expected to
be completed in April 2022.
UNCONVENTIONAL CENTER
Think all convention centers are the same? Think again.
Cleveland's LEED EB Gold-certifi ed Huntington Convention
Center off ers some unique features and destinations to check out.
* The Real Farmville is an on-site farm home to goats, honey bees, and chickens.
Additionally, seasonal greens, herbs, veggies, eggs, and honey are harvested
for use by in-house catering. To check it out, stop by the windows near the
general session room.
* A food waste recycling system allows the convention center to convert food
wasted to energy, natural gas, electricity, and soil nutrients. Last year alone,
82,000 pounds of collected food waste produced enough natural gas to heat 22
homes and power 15 homes and also created 5,700 pounds of fertilizer.
* A 14-acre green roof creates a grassy mall space above the center that's open
to the general public and convention attendees. Additionally, the living roof
design helps reduce combined sewer overfl ow by incorporating plant life and
soil materials that effi ciently fi lter stormwater.
* The Cleveland Convention Center Art Gallery, an exhibition space for local
and regional artists, is located on the concourse level and is free and open to
the public. Additionally, murals and artwork from local partners like the Rock
& Roll Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Cleveland Metroparks are
also displayed.
