WELCOMING A KID'S ISLAND

With the dual-island layout, parents and children have dedicated spaces to

Expanding the kitchen multiplied design options,
too. Several shades of blues and grays had been incorporated throughout the first floor, for example,
on the walls and ceiling in the mudroom.
" We knew we wanted to carry that throughout
the home, " said Mann, " so we picked out the blue
and the white for the cabinets first. "
Next, the designers discussed appliances with
their clients, and a stainless range didn't speak to
them. They wanted that wall to be a focal point
and opted for the red six-burner range. Case
matched paint to Bertazzoni's Rosso and used it
for the Dutch door near the dining table.
" I love the red range because we are seeing some clients get comfortable with pops of
color, " said Mann. " It lets homeowners show
their personality. "
The colorful range, islands and pantry were
paired with soft white quartz countertops and a
navy and white-patterned backsplash, which is
actually 13-by-13-in. tile that gives the appearance
of a custom mosaic.
" It looks like a splurge,but it's actually a save, " said
Mann. " The labor for that would be tremendous. "
Thanks to the otherwise white cabinets and
stainless appliances, the use of blue and red do
not overpower.
" I don't look at it like it's a white kitchen, " said
the designer. " It's a blue kitchen with a pop of red.
It's a nice use of color, but it's not an overwhelming
use of color. "
Convincing clients to expand their renovation
scope doesn't have to be challenging. In this project,
this was necessary for the clients to obtain everything
they wanted. Starting with a smaller project can be
that step toward working on something bigger with
repeat clients in the future.

