INTL. (PMI) as technical
director. Previously, he was
with IAPMO for more than
10 years as a standards
development engineer,
and his new position will be
researching legislation and
codes in development for
manufacturers and reporting
that info back to PMI's
members.
Non-Profit Focuses on Black Students
BLACK ARTISTS + DESIGNERS GUILD (BADG) has announced its Creative
Futures Grant, an educational initiative for young professionals. The grant
provides monetary support and mentorship to four Black-identifying thirdand
fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at U.S.based
institutions studying visual arts, interior design or architecture. A jury
of art and design professionals will select four applicants to receive $5,000,
and the jurors include BADG advisors Patti Carpenter,
principal of carpenter + company, and
Jack Travis, architect at Jack Travis and adjunct
professor at Pratt Institute, and Xenobia Bailey,
acclaimed multidisciplinary artist; Dr. Natalie
Bennett, director of the Women's Leadership
and Resource Center at the University of Illinois
Chicago; and Michael Harrell, designer, instructor
at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
CHEF DERRICK FOX will
return as brand ambassador
for THOR KITCHEN for a
second year. During this
partnership, the chef will use
his own suite of professional
appliances to create custom
recipes and host product
giveaways and live events
on social media for the
brand throughout the year.
Surface Brand Targets Sustainability
FORMICA CORP. HAS ANNOUNCED that it plans to reach
net-carbon neutrality by 2030, among other environmentally
friendly initiatives. As part of this major goal, the company
plans for a midpoint benchmark of a 25% reduction
of CO2
emissions and a 10% reduction in primary energy
demand by 2026. Formica will also pursue a 5% reduction of
its water footprint in the next five years and publish its environmental
impact data every year, along with its targets and
initiatives for the coming year. The 2021 Sustainability Position
Paper, as well as information about third-party product certifications,
sample recycling programs and laminates made from
recycled materials, can be found on the company's website.
