" Beyond Cookie Cutter: Adding Vintage Custom Features in New
Construction " is a case study of a high-end residential project that
begs the question: " Can new materials and antique fixed elements
play nicely together to keep your client happy without making the
contractor's head explode? "
During the presentation, attendees will experience the life cycle of
the Modern Michigan Farmhouse project that incorporated scores
of antique elements that the client had acquired in anticipation of
the new build. The process of designing around vintage and custom
elements in the two kitchens, three bathrooms and massive pantry in
this Modern Michigan Farmhouse will be explored as Leslie engages
attendees with the stunning coolness of the finished elements.
The reality of the process is the key exploration, however. The
case study will heartily feature snippets of challenges experienced
by the contractor and bespoke artists during the modification
and installation of valuable, irreplaceable antique pieces and fully
custom creations. Lessons from each of the detailed elements will
help the attendee determine if incorporating vintage features for
their own projects would be a worthwhile effort.
