Summer Style
This designer draws inspiration from
the sun and surf culture of California
KNOWN FOR HER ECLECTIC California style, designer Raili
Clasen began her career in the surf and fashion industry as an executive
leading popular brands such as Quiksilver, Roxy and Paul
Frank. At the height of her fashion career, Clasen decided to switch
gears and embarked on an entirely new entrepreneurial endeavor:
co-founding hip housewares brand Alice Supply Co. It was this
change that set the wheels in motion for where she is today.
Founded in 2013, Corona del Mar, Calif.-based Raili CA
Design began with a handful of small room remodels and projects.
Today, Clasen has grown the business triple digits year over
year, and she and the team now handle more than 20 new builds
and boutique hotels at a time. Projects range from the uber-cool
Kelly Slater Surf Ranch and Urban Flix headquarters to the fi rm's
mainstay: residential work.

1. Leather- or rope-wrapped hardware is a fun way to instill the Cali
aesthetic into a kitchen or bath. Th is Woven Leather Handle from
Anthropologie brings materiality and texture to any style cabinet.
2. I love how nautical-inspired, vintage-look lighting like Shades of
Light's Myriad Pendant evokes classic coastal style. Its cap is wound
with jute, recalling tie lines and rigging of boats.
3. With its natural fi nish and streamlined silhouette, the Reese Dining
Table by Lulu and Georgia taps into California's rich heritage of
mid-century modernism. Crafted from solid mango wood, the natural
variations of the grain give it incredible character.
4. From Clé Tile, the Clé Guild New California Collection of glazed
brick continues the artistry and aesthetic of the state's infl uential craft
movement. Each piece is handcrafted. To me, the collection represents
the beauty and quiet, earthy elegance of northern California.
5. While scouring local fl ea markets for vintage oil paintings of the
California seacoast is fun, it can be a hit-or-miss process. My easysourcing
alternative is Heidi Vintage Art on Etsy, which carries prints
that depict the full range of ocean conditions - from storm-tossed
waves off San Francisco to SoCal's sunny surf.
6. Plants, plants everywhere! Incorporating greenery makes homes
come alive and works seamlessly with California's beautiful landscapes
- whether it's the desert or redwood forests. I like that The Sill off ers
a choice of stylish planters, and shipping is carbon neutral.
